University of Texas- Patriots

Two things.. 1. University of Texas is the Longhorns, not the Patriots.
the Cowboys are probably called the Cowboys because Texas is popular for cowboys.

Its simple because Cowboys called the Plains home and Texas is a Plains state.

most of the names have a meaning behind the history of there town/state. its not just random.
