The stereotypes that are majorly true are
1. We love football
2. We love country music
3. A ton of people have pick up trucks
4. I’m in college but most of my friends since middle school have a rifle and regularly went hunting
I know it sounds odd, but I take huge pride in the stereotype like most of us do but also…
1. We have NASA and most of the space industry located here
2. We refine over 85% of the nations gasoline
3.Computer Industry – we currently lead the nation in producing computer chips and communications: Small places like Texas Instruments, Dell Computer, EDS, Raytheon, National Semiconductor, Motorola, Intel, AMD, Atmel, Applied Materials, Ball Semiconductor, Dallas Semiconductor, Delphi, Nortel, Alcatel, Etc, Etc. The list goes on and on.
4.Health Centers – MD AndersonWe have the largest research centers for Cancer research, the best burn centers and the top trauma units in the world and other large health planning centers.
5. We have the nation’s and the world’s top universities UT Texas, A&M, Texas Tech, Rice, SMU, University of Houston, Baylor, UNT, Texas Women’s University, Ivy grows better in the south anyway
6.The King Ranch in Texas is bigger than the state of Rhode Island.
I know texas has pride and all.
But most of the other midwest states HATE texas.
Jokes! Don’t take em seriously~?
Why athletes cannot hold real jobs
New Orleans Saint RB George Rogers when asked about the upcoming season: "I want to rush for 1,000 or 1,500 yards, whichever comes first."
And, upon hearing Joe Jacobi of the ‘Skins say: "I’d run over my own mother to win the Super Bowl," Matt Millen of the Raiders said: "To win, I’d run over Joe’s Mom, too."
Torrin Polk, University of Houston receiver, on his coach, John Jenkins: "He treats us like men. He lets us wear earrings."
Football commentator and former player Joe Theismann, 1996: "Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein."
Senior basketball player at the University of Pittsburgh : "I’m going to graduate on time, no matter how long it takes." (now that is beautiful)
Bill Peterson, a Florida State football coach: "You guys line up alphabetically by height." And, "You guys pair up in groups of three, then, line up in a circle."
Boxing promoter Dan Duva on Mike Tyson hooking up again with promoter Don King: "Why would anyone expect him to come out smarter? He went to prison for three years, not Princeton "
Stu Grimson, Chicago Blackhawks left wing, explaining why he keeps a color photo of himself above his locker: "That’s so when I forget how to spell my name, I can still find my clothes."
Lou Duva, veteran boxing trainer, on the Spartan training regime of heavyweight Andrew Golota: "He’s a guy who gets up at six o’clock in the morning regardless of what time it is."
Chuck Nevitt, North Carolina State basketball player, explaining to Coach Jim Valvano why he appeared nervous at practice: "My sister’s expecting a baby, and I don’t know if I’m going to be an uncle or an aunt." (I wonder if his IQ ever hit room temperature in January)
Frank Layden, Utah Jazz president, on a former player: "I told him, ‘Son, what is it with you? Is it ignorance or apathy?’ He said, "Coach, I don’t know and I don’t care."
Shelby Metcalf, basketball coach at Texas A&M, recounting what he told a player who received four F’s and one D: "Son, looks to me like you’re spending too much time on one subject."
Amarillo High School and Oiler coach Bum Phillips when asked by Bob Costas why he takes his wife on all the road trips, Phillips responded: "Because she is too ugly to kiss good-bye." (Dead man walkin’ )
Good ones. But not all of them
Kris Lawrence, a South florida based multimiullionaire is basically trying to discover the next great American Heavyweight by developing former football players. The 3 forerunner are Carlton Baker (who played at 4 colleges), Quadtrine Hill (RB from the University of Miami and the Houston Texans), and Clive Lowe (LB from Montana State). I found the article interesting. I also have previously said here that many guy who would have been boxing greats are now running to bigger money or guarenteed money sports liek football or basketball. Any thoughts?
the next american great heavyweight will appear 10 years from now.

that’s great. It’s nice to find some things that make these famous people more ‘real’, humanizes them
Which college should I attend?
I’m a Senior at a high school in Louisiana. I play WR for the school football team. This will be my 3rd year starting for the team. My soph year, I had 360 yards receiving and 3 Td’s. Last year, I had 711 yards, and 5 Td’s. This year, through 6 games, I have 598 yards, and 7 TD’s. I also have a 3.4 GPA.
I currently have offers to:
1. University of Louisiana-Lafayette
2. McNeese State University
3. University of Louisiana-Monroe
4. Southeastern Louisiana
5. University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff
6. Nicholls State University
Schools that are currently looking at me:
1. Louisiana State University
2. Baylor University
3. Texas A&M
4. University of Houston
5. University of Nevada
6. Louisiana Tech
7. Miami (OH) University
8. Rice University
I really want to go to school out of state. I’m not sure if I’ll ever make it to the NFL, but I’d like to go to a school that could have a stronger impact to me for the NFL. The biggest school on my offer list is University of Louisiana-Lafayette, but it seems like everyone around here goes there.
Help me out guys?
Pick the school where you’ll get the best education in your major. Out of 100 college football players, only 1 will ever make money playing football, the rest have to rely on their education.
Of the players that make it to the NFL, their average career is only 4 years. Yes, you could make $2 million in that time but you’ll give a lot of it up in taxes, agents, etc. After spending a lot of the rest, you won’t have much in the bank, if any. So you’d be looking at being 26 with some money in the bank (hopefully) and no income. Again, time to rely on your education.
Even if you make it really big, play 15 years and make $75 million in that time, you’d still retire at 37. What are you going to do for the next 30 years until your body gives out? Again, you’ll need to rely on your education.
Good luck.
Very very funny?
1. Chicago Cubs outfielder Andre Dawson on being a role model: "I wan’ all dem kids to do what I do, to look up to me. I wan’ all the kids to copulate me."

LOL!!!!!
That is the funniest thing ive ever read!
To the University of Houston Admissions Board,
First off, I would like to thank you for this opportunity to re-evaluate my credentials. I feel confident that my case is worthy of reconsideration. At Lawrence E. Elkins High School, I finished with a 2.95 GPA and was in the 46th percentile of my class. Although my SAT scores were not as high as I thought, I am confident that I can prove myself at the University of Houston and make good grades. During the first two years of high school, I was not as focused and determined as I was my last two years, thus my GPA was not as high as I wanted. However, I feel that I have learned from my mistakes, I am willing to do whatever it takes to make top grades at UH.
In addition to school work, I have completed extracurricular activities and achieved some awards at Elkins. Since I have submitted my application, I have been rewarded with the 2008-2009 Elkins Varsity Football Gridiron Award, which is given to the player who defines Elkins Football through hard work, perseverance, and doing what is right on and off the field. I am extremely proud of myself for receiving this award and is honored that I stood out to my coaches. This award is a constant reminder of how hard work and dedication can be beneficial. While attending Elkins, I joined the Fellowship of Christian Athletes to get closer to God through my team, coaches, and peers. While with FCA, I helped in my community by creating blankets for the nearby retirement home during Christmas breaks. I plan on joining the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at UH.
The University of Houston is my number one choice to start and finish my college career. Being a Cougar is very important to me in many ways. Since my passion is football, I would like to become a student assistant for the Cougar football team. While being very much involved with the campus, I would like to become a student of the Department of Health and Human Performance. In addition to campus involvement and studies, I want to be a Cougar because nearly half of my extended family graduated from UH. My father was very involved at the University of Houston in the late 1970s with Sigma Nu Fraternity, and my two older sisters are currently attending UH and are very much involved with campus activities and the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.
I thank you once again for your time and opportunity for re-evaluation. I wish to continue my higher education at the University of Houston. I hope to hear from you soon, Go COOGS!
Sincerely,

Change "is" into "am". That was might be the only mistake, and other than that it looks very good.
30.Toronto-why does an american athlete want to become a nobody and play in canada?
29.Utah-unless your mormon, this place will not be fun for you
28.Minnesota-hockey state, way too cold
27.Milwaukee-Wisconsin isnt exactly a media hot spot
26.Denver-the mile high city is hard to breath in, very boring to live in
25.Portland-rains too much, very little excitement in the northwest
24.Indiana-the cradle state of the sport isnt enough to have players oozing to play there
23.Charlotte-who wants to play in a state where its college teams are more well known and successful than the pro team
22.Memphis-great city, great nightlife, too bad not too many people care about basketball in the state of tennessee
21.Oklahoma City-the sooner state bleeds pride in their sports teams, hinting at their universities football team and… not the thunder
20.San Antonio-remember the alamo indeed but if it wasnt for the great teams theyve had….this would be another forgotten franchise
19.Sacramento-yes it is the capital of california but we all know L.A. and S.F. are the states pride and joy. its also nicknamed "cow town" which doesnt sound very intriguing
18.New Jersey-yeah theyre supposively moving to brooklyn. but theyre stuck in jersey for now. great diners in the garden state though
17.Golden State-aka Oakland California isnt exactly the hamptons. rough city thats produced numerous athletes with little high class neighborhoods
16.Detroit-the motor city also has some ghetto attached to the franchise which is too bad because detroit is a great city
15.Cleveland-yes the midwest is the heart of america but cleveland’s not a big market which has proven to be a big dilemna for the franchise when trying to sign and trade for players
14.Phoenix-yes phoenix has the great desert weather, but arizona is heaven for party crazy college students not basketball players
13.Washington-nations capitol is burried with history but far from destination choice numero uno
12.New Orleans-the vulnerable hurricane hot spot is still a crackin place to live, eat, play and relax
11.LAC-yes your the forgotten team of the city.in fact UCLA gets more love, but your still in L.A. it could be worse
10.Orlando-great florida weather.too bad its seen as second fiddle compared to miami.however the kids love disneyworld.
9.Atlanta-known as the capitol of the south. the little success that has came with the franchise has hurt their rank. dont see too many complaints when players land there though
8.Dallas-theyre not the cowboys but they always seem to compete, good sports city, good fans
7.Philadelphia-the city and state puts the pressure on its teams no doubt but Philly is the land of Rocky and cheesesteaks.hard to compete with
6.Houston-the pride of Texas, this city loves their teams.strong franchise history and houston is a happening place with lots to do
5.Chicago-who wouldnt want to play in the house that michael built? the windy city also has some good food i hear
4.Boston-the parquet floor is luring, the franchises history is great, celtic pride, boston loves their teams.however boston is a historical city not a place young ballers want to reside for months
3.Miami-who wouldnt want to be by the beach and the girls in bikinis?the place has weather, girls, nightlife.the franchises success cant put them up any higher than 3 however
2.New York-yes the epicenter of our country. it is the be all end all. MSG,time square, the big apple new york has it all.however the knicks arent the yankees and the arena they play in is has more history than their franchise
1.LAL-combine a great city that is the New York of the West with the tradition similar to the Celtics and thats the lakers.most hated nba franchise, most loved franchise. you can be on a below 500. laker benchwarmer team and the whole basketball world will still know who you are. look at smush parker. he soaked up his 15 minutes of fame with the lakeshow
whats your order
Great list and examples. I would rate Utah, Minnesota and Denver a little higher for the skiing and postcard views in winter. OKC is in the middle of nowhere, wouldn’t want to be in Crime City (Oakland OR Detroit) for a night game. Some of your lower ranked teams (Utah, Portland) have more loyal fans than those ranked higher (New York, Washington).
What’s a good thing to study for college?
Well I want to study things that have to do with Math Science and computers but I don’t know any thing that has to do anything with it. And can I study any of the things in Texas Tech University or University of Houston? I also plan to apply for a scholarship to play Football
Go with economics, it really doesn’t have a ton of science but if you land a job in wall street in Meryl Linch or Citi, you still can make 6 digit figures in a few years. You also get tons of insider info too though illegal to disclose.
